Arezoo Jabbari

Art, for Arezoo, is the artist's quest to discover, demonstrate, and bring the unseen, albeit visible, to the forefront. This quest begins within the artist's self, exploring and bringing out "characters locked up within the self." Arezoo is preoccupied with human loneliness within the complex and intertwined context of human society.
Her portraits of overly made-up figures reveal the layers beneath our superficiality. We charm and appeal with our outward appearance, but Arezoo observes the cracks in this beautified shell. Facial features and expressions are exaggerated, and faces often appear to melt, as if artificial and made of painted wax. Will we succeed in seeing the reality of the self behind the facade, the mask? Or is there only emptiness?

In her creations, Arezoo translates the anxieties and challenges we face in everyday life into characters on the canvas, their faces, moods, and postures. She considers painting the most potent medium to express the images and stories in her mind. We often encounter misshapen figures and distorted images, but these are precisely the unseen, though visible. Arezoo Jabbari was born in Tehran in 1987 and pursued art professionally at the age of 19. She has also curated several exhibitions.
