Description:
In I am Mother Nature, Andaroudi reclaims the female figure as a vessel of renewal and rebellion. The central portrait, with branches sprouting from the head and a beak-like mask extending from the face, merges woman and nature into one symbolic entity, half-rooted, half-awakened. The vivid contrast of turquoise and crimson amplifies both vitality and tension, portraying an intimate dialogue between instinct and intellect. Through this surreal composition, the artist challenges the boundaries imposed on the feminine body and spirit, suggesting resilience within vulnerability.
About the Artist:
Marjan Andaroudi (b. 1980, Middle East) is an artist and activist whose work critiques societal norms, particularly traditional female imagery, by revealing hidden aspects beneath superficiality. Her style features feminine characters that mock social values, often through "monsters" defying stereotypical representations. Andaroudi focuses on rediscovering the feminine body and explores themes of life and identity, suggesting a concern with appearance in a world losing individual meaning. She has held several solo exhibitions and exhibited extensively in group shows across the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Spain, and the Middle East.
